Military history collection, 1840-1971.

The military history collection consists of assembled records and manuscripts from various sources, documenting military activity in Kansas throughout its history. The records date back to the pre-territorial period around 1840, through the 20th century. The bulk of the records include muster rolls, pay rolls, descriptive books, vouchers, receipts, and papers and diaries from individual soldiers. The bulk of the records document Kansas soldiers and military units, with the exception of the pre-territorial and territorial records, which are of the United States Army. The collection contains General Samuel Ryan Curtis's 1864 campaign book, including maps, in which he discusses his activities to repulse Confederate General Sterling Price. Also included are records concerning the Confederate States of America. See box 1 for a detailed contents list.

Circa 13.5 cubic feet + microfilm.
